💳 RENEWAL OF LARGA DURACIÓN CARD

If you already hold a Larga Duración residence permit and it’s about to expire, it’s time to renew your card (TIE).

The good news? 🎉 Once you have Larga Duración, your residence authorization never expires — you only need to renew the physical card at the National Police.

It’s a quick and easy process, and our team can prepare everything for you! 👇

🗓️ When Can You Renew It?

According to the current regulation (Article 185 RD 1155/2024):

  • The first renewal of your TIE is after 5 years.

  • The second and later renewals are also every 5 years, until you turn 30.

  • From age 30 onwards, renewals are done every 10 years.

🕒 Application period:

  • Within the 2 months before your card expires, or

  • Within the 3 months after its expiration.

💡 If you renew within these time limits, your old card remains valid until the new one is issued — you can keep living and working legally during that time.

📅 How Long Will the New Card Be Valid?

Your new Larga Duración TIE will be valid for:

  • 5 years (if you’re under 30), or

  • 10 years (once you’re 30 or older).

⚠️ When You Cannot Renew

Your residence status is permanent, but your card renewal must meet a few conditions.


You cannot renew if:

❌ You try to renew while living abroad — renewal must be done in Spain.
❌ You have been outside Spain and the EU for more than 12 consecutive months.

📋 Documents We Need

  • Valid passport (all pages)

  • NIE card (front and back)

  • Recent padrón certificate

  • One passport photo (official ID size)

  • Your parents’ names and marital status (for forms)
