RENEWAL  RESIDENCE AND WORK PERMIT

💼 RENEWAL OF RESIDENCE AND WORK PERMIT (CUENTA AJENA)

If you currently have a residence and work permit as an employee (“por cuenta ajena”) — for example:

  • A two-year work permit (AUT01a) obtained through a job offer, or

  • A Cuenta Ajena card, or

  • A permit obtained through the previous MOD06a modification,

then this is your renewal procedure. 🎉

It’s time to renew your authorization and move to the next step: a 4-year residence and work permit that gives you more stability and flexibility to work anywhere in Spain. 🇪🇸

💡 What Is This Renewal?

This is the renewal of your temporary residence and work permit (por cuenta ajena).

Once renewed, your new card will allow you to:

➡️ Work in any region of Spain.
➡️ Work for any employer or even as self-employed.
➡️ Stay and work legally for 4 years.

It’s a big step toward Larga Duración or even Spanish nationality.

✅ Who Can Apply?

You can renew your work permit  if you meet these conditions:

  • You have been legally residing in Spain with your current work permit.

  • You have no criminal record in Spain.

  • You are not banned from entering Spain or Schengen.

  • You can prove any of the following work or income situations:

💼 1. You continue working with the same employer as before.
💼 2. You have worked for at least 3 months per year, and:

  • You have a new valid work contract, or

  • You are currently registered as a job seeker (demandante de empleo), or

  • You are receiving unemployment benefits.
    3. You have worked and been registered in Social Security for at least 9 months in the last 12.
    4. You have a family member in Spain (spouse, parent, etc.) who meets the financial requirements to support you.
**5. You are receiving a public social or economic assistance benefit.
**6. Your employment ended because you are a victim of gender or sexual violence.

💼 About the work contract:

If your employment continues with the same company that gave you your first permit, you don’t need to submit a new contract — the key is that you’re still registered and active in Social Security.

If you’re presenting a new contract, it must meet the requirements of Article 74 of the Immigration Regulation:

  • It can be full-time or part-time,

  • But your total annual salary must be equal to or higher than the Minimum Wage (SMI) for a full-time job,

  • And the contract must ensure continuous work activity (not temporary or irregular).

📋 Documents You Need

We’ll prepare the entire file for you. Generally, you’ll need:

  • Valid passport (all pages).

  • NIE card (front and back).

  • Recent padrón certificate.

  • Work contract or proof of employment (if you changed jobs).

  • Proof of unemployment or benefits, if applicable.

  • Proof of schooling for any children in school age.

  • Payment of government fees:

    • Tasa 790–052 (section 2.2.3) – renewal of residence and work (included in our service).

    • Tasa 790–062 (section 3.2.2) – work authorization renewal (paid by the employer).

💡 We prepare both taxes for you – the 052 is included in our service, and the 062 must be paid directly by your employer.

📅 When Can You Apply?

You can submit your renewal:

  • Up to 60 days before your card expires, or

  • Within 90 days after the expiration date.

If you apply within these time limits, your current card remains valid until a decision is made, so you can keep working legally.

⏳ How Long Does It Take?

The Immigration Office usually takes up to 3 months to decide.

✅ If there’s no response after 3 months, your renewal is considered approved automatically (positive silence).

Once approved, your new residence and work authorization will be valid for 4 years — unless you already qualify for Larga Duración.
